We shot with a Panasonic-MS 4 a camera by then with a very high resolution but not as high as Betacam SP.

We had a small monitor on the set to have an idea how it looked. By then camcorders only had a small black and white viewfinder, so we connected the MS 4 to a color montitor. Here Marlene is watching herself to get an idea how the scene will look when she frees herself from the bonds that hold her in the chair.

Below: This was one of the many costumes test shots we did weeks before we started shooting.

As Marlene did spent most of the movie being tied up and in many scenes also gagged, we also tried lots of ways how she should be tied up and gagged, if her hands should be tied in front or not, if she should have a gag in her mouth or over her mouth, what color the gag should have, if she should be tied up with ropes

or belts or scarfes.

Actually she looked more helpless with her hands tied behind her back, and a gag over the mouth covered to much of her face and actually did not really prevent her from screaming. So Marlene had that gag in her mouth, so she really was not able to scream, and we could show more of her face.

Above: knots were very effective preventing Marlene from sreaming, but was very uncomfortable and still covered too much of Marlene´s face. We finally only had one little knot in the gag, so Marlene´s lips could be seen and making it easier for her to act.

Marlene tied to a chair with her arms in a very different way with her hair tied to a knot.

We finally thought it looked better with her hair open.

In the end we decided to use ropes and the red gag with a knot.
